A few years ago, playing competitive padel in Ireland meant a handful of tournaments and a lot of travel. Today there is a full pathway, from a Tuesday night Americano at your club all the way to a green jersey at the FIP World Cup qualifiers. The hard part is knowing what exists, how the levels connect and where your next step is. Here is the whole ladder, from the top down. The Padel Federation of Ireland (PFI) selects the Ireland national team for FIP international events. FIP tournaments held in Ireland (Limerick, Dublin and Belfast so far) award world ranking points. The Irish Padel Tour (IPT) is the national ranking circuit, and the Padel League of Ireland is the national inter-club team league. Below them sit regional leagues such as the Dublin Padel League and the Ireland Padel Series in Cork, then club championships, club round robins and, finally, social competition across clubs through the Playmate Ladder. For each level, this guide explains who it is for, how it works, whether it carries ranking points and where to learn more, so you can see exactly where you fit and what to enter next. The Ireland National Team (Padel Federation of Ireland) Level: Highest. International competition representing Ireland.Who it is for: Ireland's best Open, Senior (age band) and Junior players who are eligible to represent Ireland. How to get in: By selection only. The Padel Federation of Ireland (PFI) is the member federation for Ireland of the International Padel Federation (FIP). It selects the Ireland team for FIP sanctioned events such as the European Championships, the World Championships and the World Cup qualifiers. In September 2026, Ireland sent both a men's and a women's team to the FIP World Cup Qualifiers Europe in Madrid (22 to 26 September), part of the road to the World Cup in Doha. Ireland has also travelled with large senior squads, including 38 players to the World Senior Championships in Alicante in 2024. How selection works: you must be eligible to represent Ireland under FIP rules and hold an active PFI licence. When a selection cycle opens, you declare your interest by the deadline, attend trials or an evaluation if required, and may be named in the wider National Squad. The event team is then picked from the squad roughly eight weeks before the competition, based on results, form, fitness, conduct and availability. Strong Irish Padel Tour results are the obvious way to get noticed. Learn more: Ireland National Team (PFI) How to join the national team National team trials 2. FIP tournaments in Ireland (CUPRA FIP Tour) Level: International professional tournaments, played on Irish soil.Who it is for: Elite Irish players and visiting international pros.Ranking: FIP world ranking points. The International Padel Federation (FIP) runs the CUPRA FIP Tour, the international circuit that sits below Premier Padel. Results on this tour feed the official FIP world ranking, the same ranking used by the professionals. Ireland has now hosted three FIP events: Limerick, November 2025: FIP Bronze. The first ever Padel Irish Open, held at Padel LK, Ireland's largest indoor padel centre. Organised by the PFI with ForeFront Group. Moira (Belfast area), 1 to 5 July 2026: FIP Silver. The R3 Bullpadel Cup NI Open at Padel54, Northern Ireland's first professional padel event. Dublin, 15 to 19 July 2026: FIP Silver. The Hiscox Padel Irish Open at Star Padel, St Mary's College RFC, Templeogue, with €18,000 in prize money. How many FIP points can you win? FIP points depend on the tournament category and how far you go. Here is the current FIP table for the categories most relevant to Ireland (source: FIP 2025 ranking system): FIP category Winner Finalist Semi final Quarter final FIP Platinum 300 180 90 50 FIP Gold 150 90 60 25 FIP Silver (Dublin, Belfast 2026) 80 45 25 14 FIP Bronze (Limerick 2025) 40 22 14 8 Why it matters: FIP points are the only way to get a world ranking. Even a few points from a home Bronze or Silver event can help with entry into bigger FIP tournaments abroad. To enter, you need an FIP player registration (IPIN) and must meet each event's entry requirements, which can change close to the event. If it feels like a new padel club opens near you every few weeks, you're not imagining it. The International Padel Federation (FIP) has just published its World Padel Report 2026, and Ireland is the fastest-growing emerging padel country in Europe. Here is what the report says about padel in Ireland, why the FIP is holding Ireland up as an example for the rest of Europe, and what it means for you as a player. Ireland in numbers 219 new padel courts, January to September 2026 63 new padel clubs in the same period +298% projected court growth in 2026, the highest of any emerging country in Europe €56.2m added to the Irish economy by padel in 2026 Ireland's padel growth in numbers Between January and September 2026, Ireland added 63 new padel clubs and 219 new courts. Over the full year, the FIP expects the number of courts in Ireland to grow by 298% and the number of clubs by 254%. That puts Ireland at the top of the FIP's table of emerging European padel countries, ahead of Ukraine (256% court growth), Estonia (193%), Russia (57%) and Poland (56%). In plain terms: almost four times as many courts by the end of 2026 as there were at the start. "A best-practice example" for Europe The numbers alone are impressive, but the most striking line in the report is about how Ireland is growing. The FIP describes Ireland as "a best-practice example amongst emerging European countries", crediting the federation for building a framework that can support the growth and keep it sustainable. That framework includes: The IPT, a new national ranking circuit, giving Irish players a competitive pathway and a ranking to chase Grassroots and inclusion initiatives to bring new people into the sport A coach education programme with free training places for new clubs Collaboration with larger federations and the FIP The new Padel League of Ireland, for players and clubs across the country We're proud to be part of this. LovePadel is the official sponsor of the IPT and a partner of the Padel Federation of Ireland, because a sport only lasts when there is somewhere to play, someone to coach you and something to compete for. Padel is now worth €56 million to the Irish economy For the first time, the FIP has measured padel's economic impact, working with the economists at OpenEconomics. The figures for Ireland in 2026: €44.5 million spent on padel (court bookings, court building, equipment and tournaments) €56.2 million in GDP generated €89.5 million in total economic output 386 full-time equivalent jobs €1.84 million in indirect tax revenue Relative to population, Ireland ranks 12th in the world for padel's economic impact, at €11.27 of GDP per inhabitant. Every country in the top 14 on that measure is European, and Ireland sits just ahead of Portugal, a country where padel has been established for decades. Part of a global boom Ireland's story sits inside a much bigger one. According to the report, there are now 40 million amateur padel players in 191 countries, playing on 91,234 courts at 28,497 clubs. Women make up 47% of players, and Google searches for "padel" have risen by 200% in five years. The full picture Here is everything from the report on padel in Ireland, in one infographic. Feel free to share it. What it means for Irish players More courts means more people picking up a racket for the first time, more leagues and more tournaments. If you've just started, or you're thinking about your first ranking event on the IPT, three things are worth knowing: Start with the right racket. A round, softer racket is more forgiving while you learn. Browse our beginner padel rackets, or see all padel rackets. Wear proper padel shoes. Running shoes don't grip on sand-filled artificial grass. A herringbone or omni sole protects your ankles. See our padel shoes. Get competitive. The IPT and the Padel League of Ireland mean there is now a clear path from your weekly game to ranked competition. Padel in Ireland has come a long way in a very short time, and the FIP's report shows it is only getting started. See you on court. Source: FIP World Padel Report 2026. Every few seasons a young player arrives on the Premier Padel tour and makes the established pairs look nervous. In 2026 that player is Aimar Goñi. He is 20 years old, almost two metres tall, left-handed, and he now has his very first NOX signature racket: the Nox Ventus Attack 12K XTREM by Aimar Goñi 2027. Here is who he is, why the padel world is excited about him, and a few highlights so you can see it for yourself. Aimar Goñi at a glance Born: 13 October 2005, Pamplona (Navarre), Spain Height: 1.95 m (per NOX) Plays: Left-handed Partner: Edu Alonso Coach: Gustavo Pratto (Gustavo Pratto Academy, Valladolid) Team NOX since: March 2026 World ranking: inside the top 40, up more than 25 places this season Signature racket: Nox Ventus Attack 12K XTREM 2027 From A1 star to starting again at zero Aimar built his early career on the A1 Padel circuit, where he was competing with and beating experienced professionals while still a teenager. He had climbed close to the top of that tour when it folded unexpectedly. That left him with just 3 FIP ranking points and a long road up the Premier Padel ladder. Most young players would need years to recover from that. Aimar needed a few months. In late 2025, partnering the experienced Argentine Lucho Capra, he reached the quarterfinals of the Tarragona P1 and knocked out Spanish legend Paquito Navarro on the way. Speaking to Padel Addict afterwards, he did not hide his ambition: "I believe my ceiling is very high." 2026: the breakout season In early 2026 Aimar teamed up with fellow Spaniard Edu Alonso, a friend he had trained with for years. Within weeks, the new pair was upsetting the biggest names on tour. Good to know: Edu Alonso is also a NOX signature player, with his own 2027 racket: the Nox Ventus Hybrid 12K XTREM by Edu Alonso 2027. It's a teardrop shape with a medium-hard feel, built for advanced all-round players who want control and power in one frame. Asunción P2 (May): beat Martín Di Nenno and Momo González, then took down third seeds Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to reach Aimar's first Premier Padel semifinal, where they met Ale Galán and Fede Chingotto. Málaga P1 (July): seeded 11th, they beat fifth seeds Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in what the Spanish press called one of the matches of the season. Their reward was a quarterfinal against world number ones Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia. Paris Major (September): at one of the four biggest events of the year, they beat Madrid finalists Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas 6-4, 6-3 to set up a quarterfinal with Galán and Chingotto. Beating top-five pairs at a P2, a P1 and a Major in one season is not luck. It is the sign of a player who belongs at the very top, and he has only just turned pro on this tour. Why he is so exciting to watch The smash. At 1.95 m with a big left arm, Aimar's overhead is his trademark. His coaches describe it as a natural gift rather than something drilled into him, and he can finish points from the back of the court or send the ball out of the cage when he needs to. Power and intensity. NOX describes his game as aggressive, explosive and intense. Alongside Edu Alonso the pair plays a dynamic, spectacular style that is great to watch and very hard to play against. A long-term project. Both players came up through A1 Padel before moving to Premier Padel, and they talk openly about building for the long run rather than chasing quick results. As Edu put it on NOX's own channel: "Pressure is a privilege that good people have." Watch the highlights Aimar Goñi in 60 seconds Big smashes, big power and a lot of flair. These shorts show exactly why people are already calling him one of the most dangerous players on tour. NOX Update: Edu Alonso & Aimar Goñi Go behind the scenes with the new pair as they talk about their partnership, joining NOX and their goals for the season. Joining Team NOX NOX signed Aimar in March 2026 as part of its push to back the next generation of international talent. For him it was a childhood dream: "For me it is an honour to join Team NOX. It's a brand that I've known all my life, since I was a child." He spent 2026 playing with his partner's EA10 Ventus Attack. For 2027, NOX has handed that racket over to him and rebuilt it around his game, while Edu moves to his own new signature model, the Ventus Hybrid 12K XTREM. The racket: Nox Ventus Attack 12K XTREM by Aimar Goñi 2027 This is a racket built for players who want to attack. If you like to finish points at the net and love a big smash, it is made for you. Shape: Diamond Balance: High, for maximum power overhead Weight: 360 to 375 g Faces: 12K XTREM carbon, mixing rectangular and square weaves for extra stiffness and a crisp, explosive response Core: MLD Black EVA with different densities for power and control Oversize Grip: 30 mm longer handle, great for two-handed backhands and extra leverage on the smash Weight Balance system: add 2 g or 4 g counterweights (up to 8 g) to tune the feel Dual Spin surface: 3D texture plus silica sand for more bite on the ball Vibration Control System: designed to cut vibration for a more comfortable feel Feel: Medium-hard Best for: advanced and competitive players with good technique who play an aggressive, attacking game.
